Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, has applauded the United Kingdom and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for their continued support in strengthening the country’s family planning programme.

Speaking at KEMSA during the handover of family planning commodities, Dr. Oluga thanked the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and UNFPA for boosting access to reproductive health services.

“Family planning is not just a health issue it’s a human right and a development priority,” he said, adding that voluntary contraception helps reduce maternal deaths, promotes gender equality, and enhances economic stability.

The newly donated commodities include 16,272 Levoplant sets, 69,800 DMPA-SC doses, and 100,000 Jadelle implants. The Ministry estimates the donation will prevent over 131,000 unintended pregnancies and reduce unsafe abortions.

Present at the event were British High Commission’s Eduarda Lobo Mendonça Gray and UNFPA Kenya Representative Anders Thomsen.

The Ministry is working with partners through co-financing models to ensure consistent access to family planning services across the country.
