The Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, on Thursday held a consultative meeting with leaders and government officials from Trans Nzoia County, led by Endebess MP Dr. Robert Pukose, to discuss ways of improving water supply and protecting communities from floods.
The discussions focused on ongoing water projects, including the Kamoi–Kabuga–Suwerwa Water Supply Project and the Mosongo Project, which will provide reliable water to residents of Cherangany Constituency.
Progress on Asega Dam in Kwanza Constituency, which is expected to strengthen water storage and supply, was also reviewed.
Flood protection measures were another priority. PS Korir and county leaders discussed the construction of dykes along River Sabwani to protect communities in Marinda, Namanjalala, Amuka, and Bidii, as well as the Koitobos River confluence.
The project aims to safeguard farmland and homes from recurring floods that have affected livelihoods in the area.
PS Korir also shared plans to expand water access and improve system reliability across the county, covering projects such as the Sosio–Teldet Water Supply, Kitale Town Water Supply, Kapolet Water Supply, Kimondo–Saboti Water Supply, Sendera Community Water Project, and the Kiptogot–Kolongolo Last Mile Connectivity.
He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working with local leaders to ensure communities in Trans Nzoia have reliable water, better protection against floods, and opportunities for socio-economic growth.
