Nairobi Governor Sakaja has made changes in his government, moving several county officials in a new reshuffle aimed at improving services for Nairobi residents.
In changes announced on Friday, April 24, the governor reassigned five Chief Officers, saying the move is meant to make work run better across departments.
Dr Machel Waikenda, who has been handling Mobility and also acting in ICT Infrastructure, has now been moved to the Lands and acting Mobility docket.
At the same time, Cecilia Koigu has been moved from Lands to take over ICT Infrastructure.
Engineer Bob Ariemba has been appointed to lead the Works department in an acting capacity.
In another change, Dr Irene Muchoki has been moved from Medical Services to Gender and Inclusivity. She swaps roles with Mariam Dubow Dahir, who now takes over Medical Services.
These reforms have been signed into action by the governor and become effective instantly.
The current restructuring takes place against the backdrop of increasing pressure on the governor to improve the provision of services in the city.
These recent reforms follow a previous round of major restructuring that took place last November, where there was a considerable shift in the positions of many county leaders due to the political pressure faced by the governor, especially the threat of impeachment.
The previous restructuring involved the restructuring of many senior positions in various departments, particularly health, lands, and public service to address issues within the county.
Now, with the latest round of restructuring, it remains to be seen if these reforms will be successful.
