The President’s Advisor on Women’s Rights, Harriette Chiggai, has called on widows across the country to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to gain access to essential healthcare services and support.

Speaking in Gatuti, Nyeri Town, after attending a Sunday service, Chiggai emphasized that the initiative is designed to improve the well-being of widows and other vulnerable groups by ensuring they receive adequate healthcare benefits tailored to their needs.

“Together, we can work towards building a society where women feel safe, supported, and empowered to take charge of their health and well-being,” she stated. “Let us unite in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and encourage all to register for the SHA health scheme to ensure that they receive the care and support they deserve.”

Chiggai also highlighted the urgent need to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV), calling it a serious human rights violation that affects both girls and boys.

She stressed the importance of creating awareness, educating the public, and supporting survivors to eradicate GBV in communities.

Additionally, she underscored the critical issue of asset recovery for widows, revealing the financial vulnerabilities many face after losing their spouses.

One of her key initiatives involves sensitizing widows on how to trace and claim their husbands’ unclaimed financial assets, ensuring they receive their rightful inheritance.

Her advocacy focuses on promoting equitable access to resources for widows, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity and economic stability.

She urged policymakers to take action and implement measures that secure widows’ rights to their spouses’ assets, preventing financial hardships.
