President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has announced that he will officially become a dedicated supporter of AFC Leopards starting next season.
George, who has been actively involved in promoting grassroots football—particularly through local academies and lower-tier clubs—now plans to focus his energy on the top tier of Kenyan football.
He has pledged his support to AFC Leopards, one of the country’s most storied clubs and 12-time league champions.
“From next season, I will be supporting AFC Leopards—next season it’s AFC all the way!” he declared in a recent interview.
Beyond his club allegiance, George addressed the growing concern of hooliganism in Kenyan football, a problem that has re-emerged in recent weeks.
He stressed the need for a cultural change among fans to preserve both the integrity and infrastructure of the sport.
“Kenyan football is growing, but we must address challenges like fan violence and destruction of property,” he said. “These facilities are expensive to build, and we need to promote a responsible, passionate football culture.”
President Ruto has previously spoken about George’s deep interest in football, emphasizing that his involvement goes well beyond being a casual supporter.
“My son is a great football enthusiast,” the President shared. “He often reminds me of the need to improve the state of the game in Kenya. He’s passionate about football management and is currently pursuing further studies to better support the sport.”
In fact, George has enrolled in a master’s program in sports management, a move that underscores his long-term commitment to the development of football in Kenya.
“To show how serious he is, he has enrolled in a master’s program in sports management,” said the President. “Young people like him see the enormous potential and opportunities within sports, especially football.”
