President William Ruto has promised KSh 5 million to start a trust fund for the late gospel singer Betty Bayo’s children, a pronouncement made by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki during her emotional burial. This commitment underlines the government’s support for the grieving family as Kenyans continue to mourn the loss of one of the country’s beloved voices.

Before the pledge, President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki had jointly contributed KSh 1.5 million toward the singer’s funeral expenses: KSh 1 million from the president and KSh 500,000 from the deputy president.

Betty Bayo, born Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, died on 10 November 2025 at Kenyatta National Hospital due to acute leukaemia and heavy internal bleeding-a condition she kept private until her final days. Despite efforts by the medical specialists, she unfortunately succumbed to the illness.

The celebrated gospel artist has left behind two children, Sky Victor and Danny, from her previous marriage to Pastor Victor Kanyari. She is also survived by her husband, Hiram “Tash” Gitau, whom she married after her divorce.

The late Betty Bayo’s funeral is underway today on Thursday, 20 November 2025. A public memorial service is being held at Ndumberi Stadium in Kiambu County, giving fans and friends a chance to bid her farewell.

Her final burial will take place at her own property in Mugumo Estate along Kiambu Road, a piece of land she acquired and cherished.
