A tittle-tattle has emerged that President William Ruto and former premier Raila Odinga are discussing a deal that will see the latter offered a position in the Kenya Kwanza government.
President Ruto is reportedly pushing to have a deal with Raila akin to the 2008 National Accord that the ODM leader signed with the late former President Mwai Kibaki.
In the deal, a position of a non-executive prime minister will be created through the Act of Parliament, a seat that will be filled by Raila.
If the new structure goes through, the former premier will be offered an office at the Harambee House Annex, where Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is currently operating from.
“Raila’s security has already been beefed up because President Ruto is expected to create the office of a non-executive Prime Minister for him at Harambee House Annex,” a source said.
In the reported new agreement, Raila is expected to get more Cabinet and Principal Secretaries, parliamentary committee positions, ambassadorial postings and other top appointments.
