President William Ruto has pledged that the allocation of affordable housing units across the country will be fair, transparent, and free from discrimination.
He emphasized that all Kenyans—regardless of ethnicity or background—will have equal access to the housing program.
Speaking during an inspection of the Kibera Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project in Kibra Constituency, Nairobi, on Friday, President Ruto reassured residents that the process will be inclusive and aimed at national unity.
“I give you my assurance that allocations will not be based on ethnicity. All deserving Kenyans will benefit equally because we want to build a united country,” said the President.
The Soweto East Zone B project includes 4,600 housing units, and the President announced an ambitious plan to construct 25,000 units in Kibera as part of the broader national affordable housing initiative.
“Kibera was once known as Africa’s largest slum, but with the affordable housing program, we aim to transform it into the continent’s largest decent residential estate,” he said.
Ruto also noted that enumeration for Soweto Zones C and D is currently underway. Once completed, more than 10,000 residents will be assisted in relocating to pave the way for the next phase of construction.
He assured local residents that they will be given first priority in the allocation of the new homes.
“Rest assured, you will be the first to own these houses before others are considered,” he said.

Nationally, over 150,000 affordable housing units are under construction at 200 sites, employing more than 200,000 young Kenyans, according to the President.
Additionally, President Ruto ordered the immediate upgrade of the Undugu playground in Kibera, enhancing recreational infrastructure in the area.
He was accompanied on the tour by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o), local MCAs, and other leaders.
