Nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has declared her support for Fred Matiang’i’s ambition to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.

During his homecoming ceremony in Gusii, Matiang’i officially declared his presidential ambition, and among the leaders who graced the event was Orwoba.

Orwoba’s move is a shift in allegiance and, somehow political betrayal, given that it is President Ruto who nominated her to the Senate through his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

In her speech during the homecoming ceremony, the senator said Matiang’i is the best fit to steward the country to prosperity.

Orwoba argued that the former CS would safeguard the rights and interests of the minority groups and also women if elected the president.

"We have also said that we are getting in. I want to see women. I want to tell Matiang'i that we as women are looking for a house where we can reside in peace, and if Matiang'i will provide such, then we will all get in," she said.
