Police Officers in Nyamira County have intensified the fight against illicit alcohol brewing and trafficking by intercepting and destroying over 6,000 litres of illegal brew in a single operation in Manga Sub-County.

This operation was led by the officers of Omogonchoro Police Patrol Base under the command of the Sengera Police Station.

They acted on a tip-off about the production and sale of illegal alcohol in the area.

The police carried out their mission in Kiomakondo area, Getare Location, where they located and arrested a suspected brewer who seems to be a major figure in illegal alcohol trade.

The raid led to the discovery of 780 litres of Chang’aa in 20-litre jerrycans already sealed and ready for sale. Besides that 5 530 litres of Kangara were also found and destroyed on the spot.

Later the suspect was taken to the police station and locked up while arrangements for his court appearance were being made. The Chang’aa that was recovered was retained as evidence for the trial.

As the police, this successful mission shows how the National Police Service is determined to continue its drive to wipe out the illegal alcohol trade that has detrimental effects on the health and security of the various communities.

Authorities warned that the crackdown on illegal alcohol manufacturers and distributors will continue until the networks behind the trade are dismantled completely.
