A police officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, was arraigned at the Makindu Law Courts today, charged in connection with two separate cases of robbery with violence in Mtito Andei that occurred on July 22 of last year.
Wanabisi, who is stationed at DCI Kibwezi, was arrested by detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit in collaboration with investigators from DCI Ruiru.
The court granted a 14-day custodial order for the investigators to complete their probe into the matter.
The incidents in question took place in July 2024 when police responded to reports of two robberies at Yikisaya Trading Centre within Kibwezi Sub-County.
A gang of four men, dressed in jungle uniforms and armed with a pistol, targeted 021 CLUB, threatening the bar attendants and customers and demanding their belongings.
During the robbery, one bar attendant was shot in the stomach, sustaining serious injuries, while the robbers made off with Sh50,000 in cash.
The gang then moved on to Darajani Shopping Centre, where they forced their way into Seton Night Club.
They fired two shots into the air before robbing bar attendants and customers of Sh25,850 and two mobile phones.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Officer Wanabisi may have information related to the robberies, prompting authorities to seize his firearm.
The empty cartridges recovered from the scenes of both incidents were sent for ballistic examination at DCI Headquarters.
The analysis confirmed that the cartridges matched those fired from Wanabisi’s firearm.
