The police have arrested a Nigerian and a Kenyan after conducting a raid at an apartment in Ruaka, Kiambu County. The raid was conducted as part of efforts to curb the trafficking of drugs. The police recovered various items believed to be connected to the trafficking of drugs.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest was conducted on March 15. The operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Unit, in partnership with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit.
There had been prior intelligence that a drug exchange would take place in Syokimau, Machakos County. However, upon learning that the drug exchange had changed to another location, the Anti-Narcotics Unit changed tactics and went to Ruaka, where they raided a unit at Mbuti Apartment in search of the suspects.
Several items relating to drug trafficking activities were recovered during the raid. Among the items were pellets and packets that are believed to contain illegal drugs, digital scales, various mobile phones, and foreign passports.
The police also recovered money of different currencies, including money from Kenya and Nigeria.
The suspects were taken to Ruaraka Police Station and Pangani Police Station for more investigation.
The suspected drugs are to be tested to reveal the kinds of drugs involved. The suspects are to be taken to court as the investigation continues. The operation might reveal more details of the operation of the trafficking cartel.
