President William Ruto on Friday, August 1, welcomed his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, at State House, Nairobi.

This is the first publicly known time Uhuru has visited the facility after leaving office after the end of his reign in 2022.

But why is Uhuru at State House? He is attending a joint meeting of the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Co-Chairs with the Panel of Facilitators for the DRC Peace Process.

Uhuru is part of the team in his official capacity as a facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Process on the Peace and Security Situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, is also attending the meeting.
