Peter Okoye, better known as Mr P, has publicly discussed the role that fans played in the much-publicised breakup of the legendary Nigerian music duo, P-Square. The talented twin brothers, who once dominated the African music scene, parted ways in 2017 after a series of personal and professional disagreements. According to Peter, the rift was significantly magnified by the pressure and comparisons from their dedicated fan base.

Speaking candidly during a recent appearance on the AY Live Show, Peter revealed that the constant comparisons between him and his brother Paul, who is known as Rudeboy, played a crucial role in the group’s dissolution. “The fans are the reason P-Square is no longer together,” Peter explained. “Two brothers doing the same thing, but people start saying one is better, one should lead, and that’s when the disrespect begins.”

The drama between the two brothers escalated further after accusations and public disputes. In one particularly heated moment, Peter accused Paul of lying when Paul claimed that he had written the majority of P-Square’s songs. This fueled more tension, leading to Paul’s public revelation that Peter was allegedly responsible for his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The duo’s breakup followed years of internal conflicts, including disagreements over finances, management, and creative direction. Their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who had managed P-Square and founded their record label, PClassic, was also caught in the middle of the fallout. As tensions continued to rise, it became clear that the group’s unity was irreparably shattered.

During their peak years, P-Square was a musical powerhouse, touring across Africa and solidifying their place as one of the continent’s most iconic musical acts. However, the split marked the end of an era for the group.

In February, Paul Okoye publicly accused Peter of being responsible for legal troubles surrounding their brother Jude. Following Jude’s bail hearing, Paul stated, “Peter is the one dragging Jude into this. He’s putting him in prison, and I’m here to get him out.” Despite the public tensions, Paul made it clear that he wouldn’t deny their brotherly bond, but the family conflict was undeniable.
