The National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee will hold approval hearings on Saturday, May 31, 2025, to vet nominees for the positions of Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
At the center of the hearings will be Mr. Erastus Edung Ethekon, who has been nominated for the role of IEBC Chairperson. The committee will also vet six nominees proposed for appointment as IEBC members. They are:
- Ms. Anne Njeri Nderitu
- Mr. Moses Alutalala Mukhwana
- Ms. Mary Karen Sorobit
- Mr. Hassan Noor Hassan
- Mr. Francis Odhiambo Aduol
- Ms. Fahima Araphat Abdalla
The vetting process marks a significant step in the reconstitution of the electoral body, which has been undergoing reforms to restore public confidence and enhance transparency in Kenya’s electoral process.
Following the hearings, the committee will compile a report with its recommendations to be presented before the National Assembly for debate and approval.
