Parents and guardians of children with autism in Nakuru County are being encouraged to bring their children out of isolation and seek essential services and support. This appeal is part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and promote the inclusion of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

During an autism awareness campaign in Nakuru, the organization Andy Speaks 4 Special Needs Persons Africa announced the launch of the first dedicated therapy center for children with autism in the county. The center aims to provide specialized care, therapy, and educational resources tailored to the needs of autistic learners.

Dr. Sylvia Mochabo, a renowned advocate for neurodiversity and disability rights, highlighted the importance of equipping the new facility with specialized learning tools and assistive devices to cater to the unique needs of autistic children.

She emphasized that access to proper support systems can significantly improve the lives of individuals with autism, helping them integrate better into society.“This center will bridge the gap in access to essential services, ensuring that children with autism receive the care and education they deserve,” Dr. Mochabo stated.

The campaign also seeks to challenge societal stigma and misconceptions surrounding autism, urging the community to embrace neurodiversity and foster an inclusive environment.

Parents were encouraged to seek medical and psychological evaluations for early diagnosis and intervention, which can significantly enhance the developmental progress of children with autism.With the establishment of the new therapy center, families in Nakuru County now have a dedicated resource to support their children’s unique needs, marking a significant step forward in the fight for inclusivity and better care for individuals with autism.
