In a touching gesture during the burial of comedian KK Mwenyewe in Lari, Kiambu County, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, shared that Kafengo, KK’s close friend and long-time working partner, would be offered a government position in digital content production.

Speaking to a crowd of mourning fans, fellow creators, and family members, Itumbi acknowledged the outpouring of support for Kafengo from the online community. “Kafengo has been working closely with KK. Many people online have asked us to support him,” Itumbi said. “I’m taking him on board to help with digital content creation. He begins work Monday.”

Itumbi also spoke to larger issues facing the digital content creation industry, in regard to monetisation, and said that the government would provide assistance through the President Creatives. Digital content producer Kabugi has also been named to head the initiative to set up a Sacco that aims to institutionalise government support to online creatives. The burial was somber, filled with sorrow but Itumbi’s promise to honor KK’s work by standing up for those he worked with became a kind and helpful gesture.
