Manchester United struck twice in the final three minutes to condemn Premier League champions Manchester City to a 2-1 defeat at the Etihad on Sunday, worsening their ongoing crisis.
City have now lost eight of their last 11 games across all competitions, their worst run since 2003, and with each defeat, their title hopes continue to fade.
This recent slump has already seen more losses than City experienced in their previous 106 matches combined.
Josko Gvardiol’s header in the first half appeared to have secured victory for City, as United missed several chances to equalise after the break.
However, in the 86th minute, Matheus Nunes fouled Amad, resulting in a penalty that Bruno Fernandes converted to level the score. Just two minutes later, Amad scored the winner, sealing a dramatic turnaround for United.
City’s woes now extend beyond crisis, with their eighth defeat in 11 games following a 2-0 loss to Juventus in the Champions League midweek.
After the final whistle, City fans booed their team off the pitch, while Manchester United supporters taunted manager Pep Guardiola with chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”
City entered the match desperate for a victory to turn their season around, and Gvardiol’s first-half goal briefly lifted their spirits but United’s late surge left them with yet another painful defeat.
