Over a thousand police officers have been deployed to ensure order at the ongoing WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha as well as to ease traffic flow. According to government briefings on the deployment of the police for the function, the officers from various departments have been deployed along the routes of the rally, as well as the spectator areas and the entry points.
The rally began today on Thursday and will go on until Sunday, March 15. According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, these police officers will ensure the smooth flow of events during the international rally.
“To secure safety, order, and crowd control and to support traffic management for the rally over 1,000 police personnel from different formations will be deployed across rally routes, spectator areas, and critical access roads,” the ministry stated.
This has been made possible through the coordination of a task force made up of members from the National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers, National Transport and Safety Authority, and Kenya National Highways Authority. These bodies have teamed up with the rally organizers and Naivasha County. These departments have partnered with the rally and Naivasha County in ensuring the smooth flow of events.
As advised by traffic advisories in Naivasha County concerning the rally event, if you are driving along the highway from Nairobi to Naivasha but your destination is not Naivasha, it is recommended that you use the road from Nairobi to Limuru to Flyover to Njabini to Ol’ Ndondori to Lanet to Nakuru. Alternatively, you can use the road from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu to Narok to Nakuru Western Kenya Corridor.
It is important to drive slowly along this road as it has been raining a lot, which may cause flooding. It is also important to note areas that are marked as spectator areas by police officers. It is not advisable to enter such areas as it may cause harm. The operations are smooth as security officers are deployed at these areas.
