Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has hailed the success of Operation Ondoa Jangili, saying it has made significant strides in restoring peace and security in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
Speaking at the Marsabit Police Station on Tuesday after receiving a progress report on the ongoing operation, Murkomen said the multi-agency crackdown has so far led to the recovery of over 200 illegal firearms and the arrest of more than 300 suspects.”The operation has thwarted several criminal activities and curbed the proliferation of small arms,” said the CS, adding that many of the arrested suspects have already been charged in court.
The police also displayed recovered and surrendered arms, as well as narcotics seized during the operation.Murkomen noted that the security forces are also tackling illegal mining, human and drug trafficking, and cross-border criminal incursions.
He revealed that 286 foreign nationals have been arrested in the ongoing war against drug trafficking.To bolster the security initiative, the government has deployed 600 National Police Reservists (NPRs) in the region.”The operation is ongoing, and our multi-agency teams remain vigilant to apprehend criminals and bring lasting peace to the region,” Murkomen assured.
Operation Ondoa Jangili was launched to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security in northern Kenya, a region that has long struggled with instability and violence.
