Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has been designated as the acting ODM party leader.
This follows the unfortunate death of the immediate former party leader, Raila Odinga, on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, while receiving treatment in India.
Oburu’s designation was made after ODM’s National Executive Committee (NEC) deliberations on Thursday, October 16.
He will temporarily steer the party until the ODM’s top organs convene to elect a substantive leader.
“The NEC has designated Honourable Oburu Oginga to be the acting party leader until such a time that the top party organs will meet and elect a substantive leader to fit in the big shoes left by our departed leader,” ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir announced.
