Oburu Denies Claims ODM Has Stopped Talks With UDA

ODM leader Oburu Odinga has dismissed reports that the party has suspended coalition talks with UDA.

Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, Oburu said the claims are not true, adding that talks between ODM and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have not even started.

He explained that while there is a working relationship between ODM and President William Ruto, no official negotiations have begun and no teams have been formed.

“We cannot stop something that has not even started. We have not formed any negotiating teams,” Oburu said.

His statement comes after rumours that ODM had suspended negotiations with UDA because of internal party disputes.

On the other hand, Oburu was concerned about interference by some members of UDA in ODM’s bastions. He appealed to the ruling party to show restraint when dealing with political matters, if they want to work hand in hand.

“We do not want to compete with people we may partner with. The President should control some of his party officials,” he said.

Oburu also addressed talk about possible presidential candidates within ODM. He emphasized that they have their own candidate for president, which has been outlined in the constitution.

According to him, the ODM party leader is supposed to be the party’s presidential candidate if they choose one.

“I am the presidential candidate for ODM if the party goes alone. Anyone else with such plans should look for another party,” he added
