The Selection Panel for the IEBC Chairperson recently interviewed Mr. Erastus Edung Ethekon, a highly accomplished legal expert with over two decades of experience in law, governance, and international development.

Subsequently, President William Ruto has nominated Mr. Erastus Edung to serve as the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

At 48 years of age, Mr. Erastus Edung Ethekon presents a unique blend of academic excellence and legal acumen.

Mr. Ethekon’s boasts hands-on experience in both national and international institutions.

The lawyer also boasts an impressive academic portfolio.

He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Oil, Gas & Energy Law from the University of Derby, UK (2016) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Project Management from the University of Liverpool (2013).

Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Peace, Conflict & Development Studies from Universidad Jaume I in Spain (2012).

Mr. Edung also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in the Implementation of International Human Rights Treaties from the University of Nottingham under the prestigious Chevening Fellowship (2007).

He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Government (2003) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi (2001).

Professionally, Mr. Ethekon has served as a Consultant Partner at the Northern Consulting Solution and E. Ethekon & Co. Advocates since 2004, offering legal and governance consultancy.

From 2018 to 2024, he has been the County Attorney in the Office of the County Attorney in the Turkana County Government, where he provided legal counsel on critical county matters.

Between 2015 and 2018, he worked as Programme Coordinator and Chief Technical Advisor on Area-Based Development Programming in Kenya under the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO).

His international experience includes serving as a Programme Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2016, where he contributed to regional programming across Africa.

Before that, he worked as a Programs Management Specialist at the UNDP between 2007 and 2015, further sharpening his expertise in governance and development.

Mr. Ethekon’s profile reflects a deep commitment to public service, human rights, and institutional reform.
