Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo narrowly escaped impeachment on Tuesday, surviving the motion by just one vote.
The Nyamira County Assembly convened with 34 members to vote on the impeachment motion. Out of the total, 22 voted in favor of removing the governor, while 12 opposed the motion. No members abstained.
Despite the majority vote, the motion fell short of the required threshold of 23 votes to pass, allowing Governor Nyaribo to retain his position. This marks the second time he has successfully avoided impeachment.
Governor Nyaribo did not attend the assembly proceedings but was represented by his legal team and members of his executive committee.
County Attorney Erustus Orina, along with lawyers Jacob Ngwele and Julius Anyoka, stood in for the governor during the hearing.
The impeachment motion was brought forward by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), who accused the governor of gross violations of the Constitution and incompetence. Despite the serious allegations, Nyaribo continues to hold office following the failed motion.
