The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has moved the entire motor vehicle ownership transfer process online.

From now on, buyers and sellers will no longer need to fill out physical forms or make repeated visits to NTSA offices. Everything can be done through the NTSA service portal on eCitizen.

The process is simple. The seller logs in, selects the vehicle, uploads the logbook and fills in the buyer’s details.

Once that’s done, the buyer gets a notification and can accept or decline the transfer on their account.

NTSA says the new system has cut down on delays, with applications now processed in minutes.

Once approved, the buyer can collect a new logbook within three working days from their chosen NTSA centre, after returning the old one and showing ID.

Each transfer also generates a unique Application ID, making it easy for both parties to track progress and reducing fraud risks.

If an application is rejected, the seller will be told why via SMS and can reapply without extra charges.

The Authority has cautioned motorists against paying bribes, stressing that all transfers must go through the official digital platform.

Kenyans were also reminded that driving a car still registered under the previous owner beyond 14 days is an offence under the Traffic Act.

“Do not be misled by anyone claiming they can fast-track your transfer. Report such cases to NTSA or EACC,” the agency warned.

NTSA says the shift will save drivers time, increase transparency and improve compliance with the law.
