In his three years in office, President William Ruto has launched major infrastructure projects across the country, with the North Rift Valley standing out as one of the biggest beneficiaries.

In Uasin Gishu, residents are set to gain significantly from the ongoing dualling of the 175-kilometre Nairobi–Nakuru–Eldoret highway, as well as the continued expansion of the Rironi–Mau Summit Road.

In Elgeyo Marakwet County, the President early this year commissioned the construction of the 30-kilometre Kapcherop–Kipkundul–Kapyego–Kamelei Road.

In April, he further announced the resumption of stalled road works following the release of KSh60 billion for pending payments, a move that revived several projects in the region.

In his home county of Nandi, the President unveiled the upgrading of the Kakamega Airstrip–Shinyalu–Chepsonoi Road, a key corridor linking Kakamega and Nandi counties.

The project is expected to ease travel and boost trade, agriculture, and access to services.

Additionally, the Kaiboi Centre–Kipkaren River Road is nearing completion after being upgraded to bitumen standards.

The national government has also pledged to construct about 200 kilometres of low-volume sealed roads in Nandi under the Low Volume Sealed Roads Programme.

In Trans Nzoia, the upgrade of the 45-kilometre Kitale–Endebess–Suam Road is underway, opening a vital link between Kitale and the border town of Suam and enhancing cross-border trade with Uganda.

The Kitale–Webuye Road, highlighted in the “KSh9 billion roads for Trans Nzoia” programme, is also expected to improve inter-county movement.

Meanwhile, the Kitale–Morpus Road, relaunched in late 2024 under the A1/East African Community Link Road initiative, will see the corridor upgraded into a paved two-lane highway.

In West Pokot County, work on the Kenya–South Sudan Link Road Programme is progressing, strengthening connectivity between West Pokot and South Sudan through the Lesseru–Kitale and Morpus–Lokichar routes.

Samburu County has also seen progress under President Ruto’s administration, with the tarmacking of the 20-kilometre Kisima–Sura Adoru Road currently underway.

Plans are in place to extend this road to Wamba Town and eventually to Merille in neighbouring Marsabit County.

In 2025, the Kenya Rural Roads Authority issued tenders for spot improvement and routine maintenance on several roads across Samburu, including routes in Samburu West and Samburu East such as the Lenkusaka–Nkutuk and Nkutoto–Lodo roads.
