Kenya Aquatics has picked nine swimmers to compete in the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships which started on Tuesday and is set to en on Sunday in Otopeni, Romania.
The competition brings together more than 600 athletes from over 100 nations in what is widely regarded as the premier stage for teenage global swimming talent.
Head coach Olum Otieno said the championships will sharpen their skills and build resilience ahead of bigger competitions like the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
The swimmers are aged between 14 and 18 years.
Olum who is being assisted by coach Saumu Ally selected Ameir Muravej, Igbaal Bayusuf, Johari Masinde, Victor Okech, Nathan Matimu, Nina Irangi, Audrey Langat, and Italy-based Duini Caffini.
The boys’ contingent will be captained by South Africa based swimmer Neo Olengo while girls side will be captained by freestyle versatile swimmer Macrine Kalombo of Braeburn Swimming Club.
After the Romania assignment, Kenya immediately switches focus to hosting the 10th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championships at Nairobi’s Kasarani Aquatic Stadium October 16–19th, 2025 with more than 20 nations expected, followed by the Africa Aquatics Junior & Senior Open Water Championships in Mombasa, just a day after the completion of the Zone 3 championships on Oct 21, same month, same year.
