Nine men have been arrested in Kakamega after police moved in on a group believed to be behind a string of violent incidents in the Bushangala area.
According to the National Police Service, officers had been tracking the group following reports of organised attacks, including cases where property was vandalised and police officers were assaulted while responding to distress calls.
During the Wednesday evening operation, officers recovered several crude weapons among them machetes, bows and arrows, and a heavy club. Police say the weapons were found hidden in the suspects’ houses and within the compound where the arrests were made.
All nine are now being held in custody as detectives prepare to take them to court. The recovered items have been booked as evidence.
In a brief statement, the NPS thanked residents who alerted officers to the group’s movements, saying the operation relied heavily on tip-offs from the community.
“This was made possible by members of the public who came forward with information,” the police said, adding that officers acted quickly once the intelligence was verified.
The service further assured locals that patrols in the area will continue as part of efforts to keep criminal groups from regrouping.
