Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has cast doubt on the seriousness of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s much-hyped political launch, suggesting the DP did not do enough to secure an alternative venue after being denied Kasarani Stadium.
In a statement shared on social media, Wambugu revealed that Gachagua had officially requested to use Kasarani Stadium on May 20 for a planned political event on June 3. However, the request was reportedly turned down the very next day, on May 21.
“BTW Gachagua asked for Kasarani on 20th May for launch on 3rd June; he got a regret on 21st May; the next day!” Wambugu posted. “If he really wanted to launch he should have immediately identified another venue.”
The statement has sparked fresh debate over the Deputy President’s political maneuvers and his perceived isolation within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Gachagua, who has publicly positioned himself as the political kingpin of the Mt. Kenya region, had promised to make a major announcement on June 3 — a date many believed would mark the unveiling of his new political vehicle or movement.
However, the day came and went without any official event or launch, leaving supporters and critics alike puzzled. Wambugu’s comments add fuel to speculation that the DP may be struggling to gain traction or institutional support for his political ambitions.
Political analysts have interpreted the stadium denial and lack of a fallback plan as a potential indicator of dwindling influence and coordination within Gachagua’s camp.
