Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo has issued a stern warning to non-profit organizations (NPOs) against diverting donor funds to support illegal activities, including terrorism.

Speaking at the launch of a terrorism financing risk assessment for Kenya’s NPO sector, Omollo urged organizations to ensure that funds received from donors are used solely for their intended purposes.

“The government has strengthened financial monitoring of non-state organizations, but some have refused to disclose their funding sources,” Omollo said.

He emphasized that the number of agencies involved in this assessment reflects the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration across sectors. “This demonstrates we are taking the right steps toward collaboration between various agencies,” he added.

Omollo also highlighted concerns about the potential vulnerability of Faith-Based Organizations, urging closer cooperation to close any gaps.

Lindon Nicolas, Acting CEO of the Public Benefit Organisation Regulatory Authority, stressed the need for full compliance by all NPOs. He warned that failure to adhere to regulations could result in deregistration as part of efforts to clean up the sector.
