The polio vaccination campaign was formally launched today, Wednesday, October 2, 2024, and will run for the next five days in nine high-risk counties in Kenya.
The Vaccination drive is targeting under-fives as well as 10 years of age children in 9 high-risk counties in a bid to immunize every child in these regions.
The event was presided over by the Director of Health Services Nairobi County, Dr Carol Ngumi, and the Chief Guest, Nairobi Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Mutie.
The steers of the campaign are the Ministry of Health, national administration officers (NGAOs), some county leaders, and development partners. The meeting stressed the need for both the government and society in its totality to make the campaign successful.
Officials of Bungoma County which is one of the regions targeted for the campaign, advocated for the need to work together to trounce the campaign.
In Nairobi County, the KAA Village in Lang’ata sub-county is the current site of the campaign launch, where healthcare workers and volunteers are currently engaged.

The closing session of the event was characterized by members of the Ministry of Health, Unicef, WHO, Save the Children, and Kenya Red Cross all being present.

As the campaign continues until October 6th, the whole nation rallies behind this critical health initiative, with a unified message that through combined efforts, we can eradicate polio and create a healthier future for every child in Kenya
