The National Assembly will convene for special sittings on Thursday, January 16, 2025, following authorization by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
The sessions, requested by the Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, will take place in two parts: a morning session starting at 10:00 a.m. and an afternoon session commencing at 2:30 p.m.
During the sittings, Members of Parliament will consider the mediated version of the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill (Senate Bill No. 19 of 2024), provided the mediation process is concluded.
Lawmakers will also debate the report of the Departmental Committee on Labour regarding nominees for the positions of Chairperson and members of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
In addition, the House will review the report of the Committee on Appointments on nominees for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries.
Members will also deliberate on the report of the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations regarding nominees for diplomatic positions, including High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives, and the Consul-General.
The special sittings will also provide an opportunity to discuss the report of the Departmental Committee on Labour on nominees for the positions of Vice-Chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission.
The House is further expected to consider the Startup Bill (Senate Bill No. 14 of 2022) and the Persons with Disabilities Bill (Senate Bill No. 7 of 2023) in the Committee of the Whole House.
