Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that 17 million Kenyans have so far been registered under Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program, Taifa Care.

The initiative, which aims to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare for all, marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to transform the healthcare sector.

Speaking after touring Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) this morning, the Deputy President lauded the progress made in implementing the program, noting that most of the initial challenges have been resolved.

“We have addressed many of the teething problems that arose during the rollout of Taifa Care. The Government is now focused on streamlining any remaining issues to ensure hospitals deliver services efficiently and in a timely manner,” Kindiki stated.

During his visit to KNH, Kindiki engaged with patients and healthcare workers to gain firsthand insights into their experiences under the UHC program.

He emphasized the importance of continuous improvement, pledging the government’s commitment to addressing any gaps in the system.

“This tour has provided valuable feedback on areas that require attention. We are determined to make Taifa Care a model of excellence in healthcare delivery,” he said.

Kindiki highlighted the government’s plans to further enhance service delivery, including increasing funding, upgrading hospital infrastructure, and recruiting more healthcare personnel.

The Deputy President reiterated that the UHC program remains a top priority for the Kenya Kwanza administration, as it seeks to improve the quality of life for all citizens.
