A Narok County surveyor has been arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of demanding a Ksh100,000 bribe from a member of the public.
The surveyor was arrested on Friday, September 11, at the Narok County offices while allegedly receiving Ksh50,000.
EACC said the suspect had demanded the money from a complainant to help identify beacons between two parcels of land in Nairagie Enkare, Narok County.
The arrest followed preliminary investigations after the complaint was reported to the anti-graft agency.
The suspect was taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru, where she was processed and recorded a statement. She is expected to be arraigned in court.
EACC said it would continue pursuing cases of bribery and other forms of corruption in public offices.
The arrest comes a day after the commission detained two officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kipkelion Sub-County offices over another bribery case.
The two officers allegedly demanded Ksh500,000 from a complainant in return for terminating a murder case against him. They were arrested while allegedly receiving Ksh120,000.
EACC has also been handling other bribery cases involving public officials and court staff.
On Wednesday, September 9, the commission arrested two court employees in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate incidents.
In Eldoret, a court assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court was arrested after allegedly receiving Ksh20,000 as part of a bribe.
This money was claimed to be necessary for the issuance of a stay order to halt the sale of the land parcel.
The claim had been that a magistrate wanted Ksh50,000 to get the stay order.
In Nakuru town, an arrest was made by the EACC against a court process server from the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry on claims that the latter had been asking for a bribe to give a convenient mention date for a case.
The suspect was later granted Ksh5,000 bail.
