Nanyuki Stadium in Laikipia County and which is a 10,000-seater capacity is set to have an eight-lane running track.
The stadium is also poised to have a standard football pitch, modern changing rooms, water supply and other critical amenities.
The State Department of Sports under Sports Kenya and a team from Ministry of Defense made an extensive tour of Nanyuki Stadium for a preliminary technical assessment of this facility.
According to Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, the stadium will do more than grow sports in the region; it will spur the rapid development of the town while lifting the profile of Nanyuki a critical hotspot for sports tourism and talent development.
The facility he said remains a critical channel for promotion of talent and accelerating the growth of sports in the region.
“Establishing a modern sports facility in Nanyuki therefore becomes an essential part of forging a sustainable sports ecosystem across Kenya” Mwangi said.
Upgrading it he asserted was fulfilment of the President William Ruto’s directive to establish a stadium in the region to create employment opportunities, catalyse the monetization of talents among the youth of Laikipia County.
