U.S. news anchor Savannah Guthrie tearfully pleaded with kidnappers to provide proof that her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, is still alive in a heartfelt video posted to social media Wednesday night.
“We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her,” Guthrie said, acknowledging that “voices and images are easily manipulated.” Surrounded by family, the 54-year-old Today show co-host addressed the kidnappers directly, her voice breaking with emotion.
“We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen,” she added.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing after failing to attend her regular Sunday church service in Pima County, Arizona. Local police have confirmed that she was kidnapped under suspicious circumstances and that she did not leave voluntarily. Sheriff Chris Nanos described her home as a “crime scene.”
U.S. President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to announce that he had spoken with Savannah Guthrie and is directing all federal law enforcement resources to assist the family and local authorities immediately. “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely,” he said.
In her video, Savannah described her mother’s fragile health and constant pain. “She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer,” Guthrie said, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The family is aware of media reports about a ransom note and is working diligently to do everything possible to secure Nancy’s safe return.
Savannah ended the emotional message by addressing her mother directly: “Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman. You are God’s precious daughter, Nancy.”
