The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has shut down multiple illegal alcohol outlets and arrested five suspects following an intelligence-led, multi-agency operation in Kongowea area, Nyali Sub-county, Mombasa.
During the raid, the officers uncovered a counterfeit alcohol outlet sharing a wall with a primary school, thus the children and residents’ safety issues were brought up again.
Among other things, a fake Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) stamp was also discovered at the location, revealing a neatly arranged illicit alcohol business.
Speaking at the scene, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa said the operation’s success was driven by strong support from the national government. He thanked President William Ruto for issuing firm directives to intensify the crackdown on illicit alcohol, drugs, and tobacco across the country.
Dr. Omerikwa warned that locating illegal alcohol operations near schools and residential areas signals increasingly bold tactics by illicit traders amid heightened enforcement
He appealed to the people to always be watchful and report to the police any illegal drug and alcohol activities in their area.
