The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has arrested a man suspected of supplying drugs to university students in Njoro, Nakuru County, following a carefully planned overnight operation.
The raid, carried out on Thursday by NACADA officers working alongside other security agencies, targeted a home believed to be at the centre of cannabis distribution around Egerton University and nearby student hostels. Authorities said the suspect had been under surveillance for several weeks before the operation was launched.
During the search, officers discovered a large amount of cannabis hidden in underground bunkers within the compound. More drugs were found concealed in animal pens, a tactic investigators believe was used to disguise the smell and avoid detection.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and is currently in custody as detectives continue investigations. Security agencies are now tracking down possible accomplices and wider supply networks that may be operating beyond Nakuru County.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said the operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking around learning institutions, which are considered high-risk areas for substance abuse.
