Celebrated lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has opined that the evidence presented by the National Assembly is not good enough to warrant the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who sponsored the motion, presented 11 charges, including engaging in illegal financial transactions, on which he wants Gachagua impeached.
However, during the cross-examination by Gachagua’s lawyers in the Senate on Wednesday, October 16, Mutuse seemingly had an uphill task substantiating the charges.
Reacting to the outcome of the cross-examination, Ahmednasir said the impeachment motion only fits as a political process, but the evidence provided is underwhelming.
"My takeaway from day 1 of the DP Hon RIGATHI GACHAGUA impeachment trial before the Senate: The process ticks all the boxes in terms of it being "a political process". The prosecution evidence adduced by the National Assembly isn't good enough," said
He added that should the Senate uphold Gachagua’s impeachment and the matter challenged in court, then a proper court will overturn the decision because of insufficient evidence.
