Renowned Kikuyu musician Peter Njeru Thiga has been diagnosed with intestinal cancer that has begun to affect his liver, his family has confirmed. The revelation was made during a Facebook livestream on Saturday, December 13, 2025, where relatives addressed fans and explained why urgent medical intervention is now critical.

A family spokesperson disclosed that Njeru recently underwent a series of detailed medical examinations at the German Diagnostic Centre in Kenya. Doctors confirmed that the growth in his intestines is cancerous and has started impacting his liver, prompting immediate concern.

According to the family, going public was not an easy decision, but one driven by necessity. They explained that early disclosure would allow Njeru to seek specialised treatment while he still has the physical strength required to travel and undergo intensive medical procedures.

“This is a situation where time matters. We want to act now, not later, because delaying treatment could make things worse and leave us with painful regrets,” the spokesperson said.

Njeru’s wife, Njambi, later shared an emotional account of the years her husband spent battling unexplained health issues. She revealed that he had suffered recurring stomach complications for a long time, which were often treated as ordinary digestive problems rather than warning signs of a serious illness.

“For many years, he was in and out of discomfort. We were advised to change his diet, add roughage, and try different remedies. Sometimes it helped, but the pain would always return,” Njambi explained.

Despite trying various dietary adjustments and temporary solutions, the underlying condition remained undiagnosed until the recent tests revealed the cancer. The diagnosis, she said, came as a devastating shock to the family.

“We chose to suffer quietly because we didn’t want to worry anyone. Finding out that it is cancer has shaken us deeply. I never imagined that all those years of pain would lead to this,” she added.
