Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi joined global health leaders to mark 60 years of the Wellcome Trust’s presence in Kenya.
The milestone event, held in Nairobi, highlighted the Trust’s contributions to advancing health research and combating diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS.
The celebration brought together distinguished guests, including Dr. Julia Gillard, Chair of the Wellcome Trust and former Australian Prime Minister, British High Commissioner Neil Wigan, and Prof. Irene Tracey.

“This partnership has been pivotal in saving countless lives and driving transformative health research. The collaboration between KEMRI, Wellcome Trust, and Oxford University has cultivated African scientific excellence, strengthened health systems, and enhanced our pandemic preparedness,” Mudavadi stated.
Strengthening Kenya-UK Health Collaboration

Mudavadi underscored the importance of continued Kenya-UK collaboration in health and innovation.
He praised the Wellcome Trust for its role in building robust health systems and fostering advancements that have not only benefitted Kenya but also the global scientific community.

The event was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners, and key stakeholders in the health and research sectors.
As Kenya looks ahead, Mudavadi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to furthering partnerships that drive progress in health, science, and innovation.
