Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has called on the Mt. Kenya region to embrace national unity and continue supporting President William Ruto’s administration, emphasizing that Kenya’s prosperity hinges on a united citizenry working towards shared development goals.
Speaking during a Sunday church service at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) in Othaya, Nyeri County, Mudavadi was accompanied by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Members of Parliament from the region.
He urged the vote-rich Mt. Kenya community not to be swayed by opposition rhetoric but instead to remain steadfast in backing the President, who he said holds deep trust in the region’s potential.“Focus is very key since the headline that does not change is the unity and development of all Kenyans,” said Mudavadi, quoting former President Mwai Kibaki in emphasizing the need to prioritize national interest over political distractions. “Na nyinyi watu wa mlima mkiteleza, mjue sisi tuko tayari tutachukua,” he added, implying that other regions are prepared to take up leadership roles if Mt. Kenya falters in its political direction.
Mudavadi further challenged the long-held belief that leadership must always come from a region to warrant its support. “Regions like Western Kenya have never ruled this country but they support the government,” he noted, dismissing tribal loyalty as a requirement for national development.
His comments come amid rising political temperatures ahead of the 2027 elections. In a related development, religious and business leaders in Narok County have raised concerns over growing tribal political narratives.
Led by Reverend Alex Njuguna of the Kenya Assembly of God, the leaders warned that tribalism poses a serious threat to national cohesion and urged politicians to foster unity rather than division.
The remarks by Mudavadi and the clergy underline a broader national dialogue about inclusive governance, unity of purpose, and moving beyond ethnic-based politics as Kenya looks toward future stability and progress.
