Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has strongly defended the Social Health Authority (SHA), accusing its critics of spreading misinformation about the program’s performance.

Speaking during the burial of UDA parliamentary aspirant Dr. Enock Andanje in Manda Shianda Ward, Malava constituency, Mudavadi said some hospitals enrolled in the SHA program were mismanaging their operations and wrongly blaming the government.

“I want to set the record straight. Politicians claiming that the government is responsible for the problems facing St. Mary’s Hospital in Mumias are misleading the public,” Mudavadi said. “The hospital submitted a claim of Ksh117 million under SHA, and so far, it has received Ksh82 million.”

He dismissed accusations against the Ministry of Health, insisting that all payments are documented.

“The ministry has the records, and I have a copy. If anyone wants to challenge this, I’m ready to present the evidence of payments made in November, December, and beyond,” he added.

Mudavadi warned that poor management by individual hospitals should not be used to discredit the SHA scheme.

“Some people are determined to sabotage the rollout. If St. Mary’s management can’t account for funds, they must take responsibility,” he said.

He also accused certain facilities of withholding evidence to undermine the program and insisted the government is addressing transition challenges.

“Cartels abused the previous health system. Now, SHA demands accountability. Don’t call for government transparency while refusing to show your own records as a health provider,” he cautioned.

The SHA is a new government initiative aimed at providing all Kenyans with access to comprehensive healthcare across preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative services through empanelled facilities on referral from primary care centers.
