Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, has lauded President William Ruto’s commitment to fostering regional peace, emphasizing its importance in ensuring Kenya’s own security and stability.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner in Malindi, Kilifi County, Mudavadi highlighted Kenya’s significant role in mediating peace processes in neighboring countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), South Sudan, and Sudan.
He stressed that these efforts are necessary to prevent instability from spilling over into Kenya.“The President is doing so much to ensure that we realize regional stability and peace to help us focus on addressing issues that affect the well-being of the citizens rather than dedicating our efforts to resolving conflicts, which in turn affect development,” said Mudavadi.
He also voiced support for the recent appointment of Kenya’s opposition leader, Raila Odinga, as Kenya’s special envoy to South Sudan. Odinga’s role will be instrumental in facilitating peace negotiations and preventing further conflict in the war-torn country. Mudavadi dismissed criticism suggesting that President Ruto is overstepping his mandate by engaging in regional peace initiatives.
He reaffirmed that Kenya has long been a beacon of stability in East Africa and should continue playing a leading role in conflict resolution.“What the President is doing is a preventive measure so that Kenya does not get itself in such a situation where our national peace and security are compromised as a result of conflict in neighboring countries,” Mudavadi stated.
He cautioned against politicizing Kenya’s peace efforts, warning that instability in the region could have dire consequences for the country. He urged Kenyans to appreciate and uphold the peace they enjoy, as conflict could have devastating economic and social impacts.
The Prime Cabinet further emphasized the importance of unity and constructive dialogue among Kenyans. “Let us pull together to make Kenya great. We can disagree, which is natural, but let us not fight. Instead, let us work together and be reasonable in our disagreements.”He also assured Kilifi residents that the government remains committed to implementing the Universal Health Care program and addressing any existing challenges to improve service delivery.
