Dr. Daniel Mutegi Giti was sworn in as the incoming Commission Secretary/CEO of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) this afternoon at the Supreme Court. The ceremony was led by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Also present at the swearing-in were NCIC Vice Chair Commissioner Wambui Nyutu, along with Commissioners Dr. Danvas Makori, Dorcas Kedogo, and Eng. Philip Okundi.
In her address, the Chief Justice urged the NCIC to remain vigilant in executing its mandate and called on Dr. Giti to steer the commission’s efforts in promoting peace and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Your assumption of office comes at a particularly significant moment in our national journey, as we approach the 2027 General Election. This period is often marked by heightened political activity and charged public discourse. Therefore, it is essential that the NCIC stays vigilant, proactive, and resilient in fostering peace, cohesion, and national unity as political temperatures rise,” said Koome.
According to the National Cohesion and Integration Act of 2008 (NCI Act), the CEO of the Commission serves a three-year term, subject to renewal.
Dr. Giti succeeds Harrison Kariuki, who has been serving in an acting capacity for the past two years.
