Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has officially assumed the role of acting Cabinet Secretary for Public Service after the dismissal of Justin Muturi.

Mudavadi steps into the position following President William Ruto’s recent Cabinet reshuffle and will hold the role pending parliamentary approval of the newly nominated Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Geoffrey Ruku.

During the handover ceremony at Railways, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of a smooth transition process to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of government projects and programs.

He explained that the government was advocating for the Assumption of Office of the President and the Transition of Executive Authority Bill to provide a clear framework for such transitions.

“We need to maintain a good spirit of transferring power in a structured way, including providing progress reports on government programs. A bill currently in Parliament seeks to bring order to the power transfer process,” Mudavadi stated.

He added that the proposed legislation would address any gaps in the transition process and ensure a formal and well-documented transfer of executive power.

Mudavadi also commended Muturi for his dedicated leadership and his contributions to advancing public service initiatives during his tenure. He assured that the transition would ensure the continued success of government operations, reinforcing the commitment to efficient governance and accountability.

“The Prime Cabinet Secretary’s Office will oversee public service responsibilities until a new appointee is confirmed by Parliament,” Mudavadi noted.

In his farewell remarks, Muturi expressed pride in his work over the seven months he served in the ministry, particularly in advancing the BETA agenda, which focuses on building a more agile and efficient public service.

He also highlighted efforts to reduce the government wage bill to 35% of GDP.

“I am proud of the team at the Ministry of Public Service for their efforts in streamlining the workforce.

Whoever takes over will find that important work is already in progress,” Muturi said.
