Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi appeared before the Senate plenary on Wednesday to provide insights into the staffing levels at the Kenya Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the two Kenyan Consulates General in Los Angeles and New York.
His appearance followed a question posed by Nairobi Senator Edwin W. Sifuna regarding the effectiveness of Kenya’s diplomatic representation abroad.
In his presentation, Mudavadi delivered a detailed breakdown of staffing categorized by cadre, highlighting the vital roles played by staff in each position.
He emphasized that the commitment of Kenyan missions worldwide is unwavering in promoting, projecting, and protecting the nation’s image and interests on the international stage.
“Our Kenyan embassies and missions remain steadfast in their commitment to fostering cordial relations between Kenya and the countries or institutions with which they are accredited,” Mudavadi stated during the session.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary also addressed concerns from Senators regarding the capacity and impact of the Kenyan diplomatic missions, assuring them that the government is dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of its foreign service.
Mudavadi concluded the session with a pledge to provide further updates on the operations of Kenyan missions abroad, reinforcing the government’s focus on improving diplomatic engagement and representation.
