President William Ruto has announced that construction of the Itare Dam in Kuresoi North Constituency will resume by the end of the year, following a new agreement between the Kenyan and Italian governments.
Speaking at State House Nairobi on Wednesday while hosting leaders from Nakuru County, President Ruto said the dam, once completed, will address the persistent water shortages affecting Nakuru City.
“The completion of this dam will bring a lasting solution to water scarcity challenges in Nakuru,” he stated.
The President further revealed that the government has allocated KSh2.5 billion to revive stalled development projects in Nakuru County. An additional KSh2.5 billion has been earmarked to connect 21,000 households to electricity through the Last Mile Connectivity Programme.
“We have agreed with the contractors that all these projects must be completed by December, so we can proceed to the next phase,” he added.
President Ruto also addressed the stalled Lanet Airport project, assuring that the government is working to resolve the contractual dispute that has delayed its construction.
With the support of the military, the government will also complete Afraha Stadium and begin construction of a new stadium in Olenguruone.
On economic development, the President confirmed that plans for the Naivasha Special Economic Zone are on track. “We have acquired 5,000 acres in Naivasha to begin infrastructure development for this project,” he said.
Turning to education, President Ruto announced that counties can now begin issuing bursaries, following a collaborative agreement between county governments and the Office of the Controller of Budget.
