Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has joined Kenyans in mourning the passing of gospel singer Betty Bayo, penning a touching message in which she explained that she was shocked and very saddened by her sudden loss.
Taking to social media, Nyamu wrote an emotional tribute to reflect on how the late Betty Bayo’s music had personally impacted her life and the lives of many believers across the country.
“Woi kairitu niwethiera? Gutiri undu umaga Ngai na thutha no kai. This is so shocking and so sudden,” Nyamu wrote in Kikuyu, to express his disbelief and sorrow following the tragic news.
The senator went on to recall how Betty Bayo’s hit song “Siyabonga” inspired her spiritually and taught her about faith, grace, and God’s unending favor.
“I will never forget how your music taught me early about God’s favour and grace through your song ‘Siyabonga’. Your music healed hearts, including mine. Thank you for letting God use you. Rest in peace till we meet again,” she added.
The late Betty Bayo, whose soulful gospel hits like “11th Hour” and “Siyabonga” stirred the souls of many, has been remembered as one of Kenya’s most inspiring gospel voices-a woman whose songs offered healing, strength, and encouragement to many.
