Members of Parliament have approved the nomination of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the next deputy president.
President William Ruto nominated Kindiki to fill the position, which fell vacant following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
During the Friday, October 18 special sitting of the National Assembly, 236 MPs voted to approve Kindiki’s appointment.
After his approval, Kindiki will then be sworn in to officially take over the office as Ruto’s chief principal.
Kindiki has been serving as the Interior CS for about two years, and his appointment has left a vacant position in his office. Previously, he served as Tharaka Nithi senator for 10 years.
In the run to the 2022 General Election, Kindiki was the most preferred to be Ruto’s running mate, but the Kenya Kwanza Alliance later settled on Gachagua.
